As noted in the Codeguard report, WordPress is the clear market leader and its dominance is likely to continue.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The finding adds more weight to what others in the industry have previously reported.<\/p>\n

In Codeguard\u2019s words:<\/p>\n

WordPress is clearly dominating the content management space and we expect this to continue for the foreseeable future.<\/em><\/p>\n

As of 2011, it was estimated that 20-25% of new sites were built using WordPress and industry data now is similar to ours, with estimates that three-quarters of new websites are built with WordPress.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Behind WordPress were Joomla with just 7.2% market share and Drupal accounting for 5.3% of content management systems.<\/p>\n

Medians and more<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The CodeGuard report contains heaps of medians derived from the information provided by survey participants.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The medians are:<\/p>\n

– 9 posts<\/p>\n

– 3 users<\/p>\n

– 8 comments<\/p>\n

– 20 pages\u00a0<\/p>\n

– 1.7-second page load time<\/p>\n

– 4 installed themes<\/p>\n

– 15 installed plugins<\/p>\n

– 51% not mobile optimized<\/p>\n

– 90% on Facebook, 72.7% on Twitter, 30% on Google Plus, 27.9% on LinkedIn<\/p>\n

Popular plugins and themes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re using WordPress for business and have installed Avada, Twenty Twelve, Twenty Eleven, Weaver II Pro or Dynamik-Gen, you\u2019re using the top five active themes. The report found Kallayas, Divi, Elegance, Sahifa and Salient are also popular.<\/p>\n

The top installed plugins are Akismet, WordPress SEO, Contact Form, WordPress Importer and Wordfence Security. Gravity Forms, Google XML Sitemaps, WP Super Cache, Advanced Custom Fields and All In One SEO Pack complete the top 10.<\/p>\n

But the report\u2019s authors weren\u2019t expecting to find LinkedIn is almost as prevalent as Google Plus on small business websites.<\/p>\n

Mobile friendly fail<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Despite pressure from Google and the increase in mobile browsing on smartphones and tablets, \u201cmore than half of all website owners are ignoring, resisting or de-prioritizing the importance of mobile friendliness and responsive designs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is a surprising finding because websites that aren\u2019t mobile ready are being penalised in search rankings on mobile devices, potentially resulting in fewer customers and less revenue.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re using WordPress for business but your site isn\u2019t mobile friendly, find a design or development team to help make it responsive.<\/p>\n
